Weekend Rewind: In Case You Missed It

Summary

Players: Michigan breaking NCAA rules - How unpopular of a coach must Rich Rodriguez be if his own players are accusing the program of NCAA violations? The Detroit Free Press reported that past and current players said Rodriguez's staff requires the team to spend more than the NCAA-allowed time on football activities during the 2008 season and 2009 offseason. It's hard to think of anything making Rodriguez's 3-9 debut at Michigan look worse, but how can you violate NCAA rules by having your players work harder and still lose nine games? At least Rodriguez hasn't burned his bridges at West Virginia.. oh wait

Campbell impressive in preseason game - It took two bumpy games, but Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell finally looked like a starter in Friday night's 27-24 loss to the Patriots. Campbell finished 13-for-22 for 209 yards and a rushing TD, which hopefully will quiet the absurd calls for Todd Collins, Colt Brennan or even Chase Daniel to open the season at quarterback. Meanwhile, Brennan's fan club membership may be at an all-time low after he was picked off for a 99-yard touchdown. Perhaps Redskins fans now realize that the team's "Quarterback of the Future" likely doesn't reside on the roster.
