Summary
Maison Trimbach is famed for steely, structured Rieslings, so much so that people sometimes overlook its other offerings. In most vintages, Rieslings certainly are the best Trimbach makes. However, in 2000, this venerable Alsatian house excelled with Gewurztraminer, producing an atypical but sumptuous wine with an almost gaudy bouquet and luscious pineapple, orange and honeysuckle flavors.
Gewurztraminer is a classic love-it-or-leave-it varietal. Exotically perfumed and richly flavored, its appeal comes from exuberance, not subtlety. Best drunk on its own as an aperitif or with rich, fried foods (think Southern fried chicken), it inevitably tastes slightly sweet, even when technically dry.See the full content of this document
