Summary
As I thought about this election year, it occurred to me that the real loser is not a man, but ideals. The first to take a hit is honesty (surprise). Between shifts of half-truths, truth and outright lies, how do we know where any candidate stands? Can a person have said something 10 years ago and not have developed a different opinion from his or her experience or learning? How can we judge a person's voting record if he voted against a bill but may have done so because of the wording or attachments? Don't we have not only the right, but the duty, to ask the hard questions?
No, the person doesn't need to rattle off answers on foreign countries or the economy. He will have his own experts on staff to advise him. What we need is a basic plan on leading. What are the candidate's core beliefs? Sadly, the major newspapers have shamed themselves with their coverage of the issues.
