Turn on the faucet in today's modern kitchen, and it might not be the traditional silver of stainless steel or chrome.

In the past five years, oil-rubbed bronze and other Old World finishes used in the bathroom on doorknobs, cabinetry and wall fixtures has moved into the kitchen, says Judy Riley, vice president of design for Moen Inc., a plumbing and water-delivery accessories company based in North Olmsted, Ohio.

The more traditional finishes of chrome and stainless steel give faucets a high-tech look, while bronze and copper have warmer tones for a look that is homey, country or that of a vacation home, Ms. Riley says.
