Sarah Nannette Hale Dayton, a long time resident of Middleburg, Virginia, died in Washington, DC Friday, April 4th, 2008 following a brief illness. Born February 2nd, 1918 in Rogersville, Tennessee, Mrs. Dayton was educated at the Montreat School for Girls in Montreat, NC, Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Va and The Katherine Gibbs School in NYC. She was the long-time personal assistant to US Sen. Kenneth McKellar (D-Tn) and was married July 24, 1948 to Herman Albert "Lee" Dayton, of Connecticut, who preceded her in death in 1979. The daughter of Judge Winfield Berry Hale, Jr. and Alma Brooks Phillips Hale of Tennessee, Mrs. Dayton was also predeceased by her beloved brother, Winfield Berry "Hap" Hale, III and her nephew, Winfield Berry "Chip" Hale, IV. She is survived by her nieces. Ann Bachman Hale-Smith (Frank) of Atlanta, Ga, Alma Philllips Hale Paty (John) of Washington, DC, Cornelia Hughes Dayton (Jim Boster) of Ashford, Ct, a nephew, Thomas Summers Hale (Jennie) of Birmingham, Al., brother-in-law, William Berrian Dayton (Ruth) of Stonington, Me, and 6 great-nieces and nephews. Services and Interment will be held at Christ Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Middleburg, Va at 4 pm April 12th, Royston Funeral Home directing. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be directed to either The Chip Hale Center,Hasson Street, Rogersville, TN 37857 or The Humane Society of Loudoun County, PO Box 601, Leesburg, Va20178.See the full content of this document
