Lenderman Repeats As Eastern Champ

New York GM Alexander Lenderman made it two in a row last week, repeating as champion of the year-ending Eastern Open downtown by a full point over a trio of challengers. The rising American star finished undefeated at 6 1/2-1 1/2 in the area's traditional big holiday event.

Lenderman's closest pursuers were fellow GM Mark Paragua, FM Anton Del Mundo and expert Jialin Ding, who had one of the best results of the four-day event. Ding lost only to GM Larry Kaufman, drew Lenderman and Paragua and upset IM Oladapo Adu in the final three rounds to claim a share of second place.
