Your Thursday editorial "Afghanistan is not Vietnam .. yet," left out the most important comparison between President Johnson's Vietnam and President Obama's Afghanistan Both presidents had very ambitious domestic agendas and did not want any bad news from their wars to distract from those agendas. Then look at what is happening today as Mr. Obama punts on putting more troops into the country while he uses all his energies to push his domestic agenda. Mr. Johnson's failures to act cost the United States dearly by allowing the North Vietnamese to build up their defenses while the United States dithered. Mr. Obama accused the George W. Bush administration of allowing the Taliban to get reorganized while the United States was distracted in Iraq.
