Summary


For President Obama, who promised to deliver political change ("Enough! Business excesses are disgraceful," Editorial, Sunday) with credible solutions for the serious problems, I find his political demonization of Wall Street disgraceful.

I do not remember any elected official, let alone the president of the United States, ever criticizing Wall Street when securitization was generating disproportionate tax revenue filling federal and state government coffers. Mr. Obama fails to understand that many people employed on Wall Street in financial services do not earn overtime despite regularly working 65 to 75 hours a week. What Mr. Obama and New York state Comptroller Thomas P. Dinapoli also fail to point out is that the federal government and New York State collectively stand to take about half in tax revenue of the $18 billion in bonuses they are criticizing.
