Diversity On Campus

Summary


I usually sympathize with those who lament the lack of conservative voices on college campuses. However, as a University of Pennsylvania student, I was a little chagrined at the mention of my school in Jason Mattera's column about liberal commencement speeches ("No diversity on campus," Op-Ed, Monday).

It seems insincere to complain about the choice of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a former Republican whose potential independent presidential campaign this year would have been a real alternative for some conservatives. Furthermore, former Secretary of State James A. Baker III, who served in the Cabinets of Presidents Reagan and George H.W. Bush, gave our commencement address last year.
