Suzanne Fields' Thursday column rightly condemns expressions of hatred against Jews that she says are common in elite circles in today's England, but it wrongly labels criticism of Israel as the "new anti-Semitism" ("The kosher conspiracy," Op-Ed). Her charge of selective use of historical facts by English journalists when writing sympathetically about the plight of Palestinian Arabs is certainly applicable to her blanket justification of Israel, especially when it comes to the founding.
The accepted Israeli version of what transpired during the 1948 war has been called into question recently by Israeli scholars.
